Mini-symposium description

This mini symposium proposes a discussion forum on the biomechanics of blood clots and their interaction with thrombectomy devices during endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke. A variety of topics will be covered including, but not limited to, characterization of the mechanical behaviour of blood clots, clot contractility, image-based mechanical characterization, micromechanical and multiscale modelling of clot, modelling of thrombectomy procedure, optimization of thrombectomy devices such as stent retriever and aspiration catheter, clot fragmentation and risk and consequences of secondary embolization during mechanical thrombectomy, and clot-artery adhesion properties. Of particular interest is the modeling of thrombectomy devices and their interaction with clots during mechanical thrombectomy with stent retriever or during direct aspiration. In-vitro experimental studies and in-silico computational studies are very welcome.
