3-7 – Nonlinear Elasticity

Mini-symposium description 

It has been recognized that using the large deformation theory is essential to model many elastic and inelastic phenomena in soft materials. This, combined with innovations in material, biological and chemical sciences, has led to transformative changes of the mathematical theory that is needed to describe these events. Therefore, the purpose of this symposium is to address and outline new directions in large deformation solid mechanics and to furnish a forum for discussions on a wide range of research in all fields comprising nonlinear elasticity. In particular, we encourage contributions in the areas of: 

  • Interactions of mechanics, chemistry and biology 

  • Mechanical properties and behaviors of materials in both engineering and biology 

  • Elastic and inelastic properties of elastomeric and polymeric systems 

  • Stability, bifurcation and waves 

  • Coupled field phenomena and constitutive laws 

  • Biomechanics of soft tissue 

  • Mixture theories for modeling biological growth and swelling 

  • Characterization and modeling of active biohybrid materials ​
